Movie Review – Bring Her Back

Bring Her Back <—- Another one I’ve been DYING to see (since I saw the previews at the movie theatre). Touted as the scariest movie of the year, and “OMG THE trauma”, and the “best movie I never want to watch again” and the subject lines to every review I saw about it gave me an absolute jolt of YESSSSSSS SHOW IT TO MEEEEE!!! I was so excited. The title alone had me on the edge of my seat, and this genre of movie is my absolute catnip of all horror movie tropes.

Paranormal/supernatural dealings with conjurings and black magic and demons and exorcisms and hauntings and everything I’d never want to encounter in my own life. Like… EVER!!! Anyway, all that to say, the trope of this one and the reactions to it (and the fact that it was made by the same people that made “Talk to Me” which I LOVED (here’s my review of that one) – fun fact – this movie is set “in the same universe” as Talk to Me – so it has that same style and feel to it) – price be damned, I had to rent it NOW!!! And I did.

Annnnnnd…. I loved it (creepy, unsettling, disturbing, and another “in your face” kind of movie when shocking things would happen by way of “body horror”<— I had to not look a few times because it was crazy!!!) but while it IS a scary movie (to most), I’m giving it 4 stars because it didn’t go…how can I say this… deep enough to scare me or give me the chills I need. It almost felt like a pg version of the horror/terror/shivers up my spine/blood run cold/sleep with the lights on level it could have reached (at least for me). I needed one step more… I needed more of a certain thing that the movie did not delve into which surprised me.

BUT!! The movie made me feel… BIG TIME.

The story was unique and excellent, the actors were excellent, I loved that it has that family/home/connection feel to it (there’s a story within the scary story which I loved – two siblings that are placed into a foster home when their remaining parent dies), and it made me SO sad too. LOVED it, but it’s more on a 4 star level for me only because I’m missing that fear factor that I crave, especially for a movie like this and a trope that terrifies me.

4 STARS!! <— It is still incredibly well-rounded, and the scenes are incredible, and it’s an unforgettable movie. I’ve found that movies that disappoint me after high hype, usually are even better for me the second & third time around (like Hereditary – now THAT MOVIE is scary!!! And yet, I didn’t find it that scary the first time). Maybe I put up a “scary movie protection wall” around me, on first watches. LOL!! Anyway, will I watch it again? ABSOLUTELY YES!!!

I WATCHED THIS ONE!!

Bring Her Back

I WATCHED THIS ONE!! AND I LOVED IT!!

“A brother and sister uncover a terrifying ritual at the secluded home of their new foster mother in this nerve-shredding possession horror from the breakout directors of Talk to Me starring Academy Award-nominee Sally Hawkins.”

A FEW CRAZY SCENES SO INTENSE and shocking that I had to look away…
