EXCERPTS:

Captured In Ink
“Ronin,” Kincaid said, his voice that low, bear-like growl that had once sent me into oblivion. He
looked rough, his red hair curling over his forehead, his beard bushy. There were blond streaks
in it now as if he had been out in the sun, his freckles popping on his nose. He wore a T-shirt so
I could see his ink, newer designs that I had never touched before, and older ones that I had
once licked.
And here he was, in front of me, the man who had walked away without a word, and yet he
was on my doorstep as if nothing had happened.
“Kincaid,” I whispered, and Julia froze again.
The man I had loved, the guy that I promised I would never love again was standing in front
of my wife and me. The world crashed down around me.

The Flame
“What you did, Cassidy,” he says, “what we did was something we have wanted to do for years.
When I fell in love with you, I fell in love with all of you—every part of you. And Shane is part of
you. When the two of you are together you make something so beautiful I don’t have words for
it. And I’ve always wanted it.”
“So you’re in love with Shane, too?”
“It’s not possible to be in love with you without being in love with Shane.”
“Some people would say that’s a bad thing.”
“Yeah, well, not me. Maybe another man would have run from it. But the moment I first laid
eyes on you together—remember? I’d been trying to find you for days after I met you in class,
and then I finally tracked you down on the green, and the two of you…the two of you were…you
were the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen.”

Tangled With You
But after a few days, those emotions had been replaced by something else. Not lust, but need.
His mind already knew he needed Trevor in his life as a friend. Now, his body and his heart
wanted so much more.
The knowing helped. That certainty of what and who he wanted.
Even now, though, there was an unease. It wasn’t because Trevor was a guy. Ollie could
give a flying f*ck who anyone slept with so long as they were of-age and consenting. No, what
still sort of bothered Ollie wasn’t that he wanted Trevor—and god how he wanted him—but that
he was meeting an Ollie he’d never known before. And how had he made it all the way into his
thirties without having any idea that he was attracted to men?
He didn’t have a clue about that, but he told himself it didn’t matter. Why should it? The only
important thing was Trevor. And as he looked at Trevor standing at the front of the room, confident and in charge, he couldn’t remember ever being with anyone who gave him quite the
same gut punch. He’d fallen hard, but it hadn’t been fast. And he’d left Trevor hanging for far too
long.
Earlier, he’d shown him how he felt.
Tonight, he needed to tell him.

Strung Up
None of the yard lights were on around the buildings. Probably to keep guests from wandering.
A tiny sliver of moon did little to slice through the darkness. I wondered if that darkness made it
easier for Breck to take my hand.
My heart jumped into my throat. It’d been so long since I’d had that simple connection it felt
foreign.
That’s because it’s not Mick’s hand.
Breck’s hand was bigger. Rougher. Stronger from years of handling coarse ropes. He
locked his fingers more tightly to mine. Mick’s hands had always been cold and clammy—and it
bothered him enough that we rarely held hands. Even when we were home alone.
Why are you thinking about that? Every comparison you make will add to your uncertainty. If
you can’t follow through with simple handholding, let him know now.
F*ck that. I could do this. I had to do this.
And I’d take it far beyond handholding.
