This August, you can read poems and support Palestine thanks to the Sealey Challenge and The Sameer Project.

The Sealey Challenge is a month-long project where participants read a book of poetry every day in August. To motivate readers, The Challenge has a fundraiser too, and this year they’re donating all money collected to The Sameer Project, a Palestinian led aid initiative which provides live-saving aid to the people of Gaza. There’s no better way to spend August!

The Sealey Challenge was started by poet Nicole Sealey in 2017 with a simple goal: read a book of poetry every day in August. The 31 books in 31 days challenge has attracted a lot of eager participants and grown into a larger community. It’s a great way to get deep into poetry for the month, and Laura Buccieri described the Challenge as “a new type of MFA program: required reading, group discussion, a sense of community, accountability, and a diversity of themes.”

If you want to push yourself to read a lot of poems and support a great cause this August, you can sign up for the fundraiser here! And there’s more information about The Sameer Project here and more on The Sealey Challenge here.
